Synopsis "The Night Before Christmas in Scotland (in Scots)"

The classic poem "The Night Before Christmas" by Clement Clarke Moore, has been translated into Scots by Kirsty Strange. Also features a brand new musical score by James Strange. With beautiful illustrations by Jessie Willcox Smith, you'll enjoy this nostalgic trip as you snuggle "doon" with your bairns and experience the magic of Christmas."Twis th' nicht afore Christmaswhen aw aboot tha hoose, Nae creature wis stirrin'no even a moose..."Fantastic stocking filler/ Christmas eve gift ideaA quirky take on a timeless classicCherish this bedtime festive story for all the family to enjoyFun to readAs we celebrate the 200th anniversary of "The Night Before Christmas", Kirsty was inspired to write a Scottish poetry version of this all-time classic poem. She developed a wee retelling of the story whilst reading the poem to her own children as a bedtime story. The original tale was beautifully written for his children in 1822 by Clement C Moore, and has remained a family favourite that really sparks the imagination in us all.Kirsty loves the colourful and fun nature of the Scottish language, so enjoyed adding a touch of humour to this timeless classic, whilst preserving the essence of the original poem. The illustrations, which have become synonymous with the poem and have been used with this translation, were created by Jessie Willcox Smith in 1912.This new book adaptation offers a wee bit of festive magic (and a touch of music) to the readers, two hundred years after the original poem was published. A recording of the score is available on the audio version of the book.
