Synopsis "The World and i (in Chinese)"

本书从一个五岁孩子回忆日本侵略中国开始，那时他住在属于半殖民地区的上海法租界。他早年经历了抗日战争，国民党撤退，上海解放等历史事件。他19岁时经香港和英国到美国留学，获物理博士学位。他由衷地热爱物理学，曾在贝尔实验室和IBM研究中心等世界顶级的科学实验室里工作。1972年他随美国科学家代表团访问中国，得到了周恩来总理的接见。回美国后在杂志《科学美国人》上发表文章：《高科技在中国》，向美国民众介绍中国。他促使IBM到中国开展业务，参与IBM在1973年派出的首个业务代表团访华，帮助中国向世界开放。在科学技术上，他与诺贝尔物理学奖获得者江崎共同构建了高科技的人造固体-超晶格，现在这种材料已发展成纳米技术和超材料技术，获得了广泛的应用。
