La hipótesis de este trabajo es pues, la siguiente: las utopías se han anticipado al destino de las metrópolis, pero a su vez, las graves circunstancias sociales y metropolitanas han incentivado la generación de nuevas utopías. Ellas han proveído elementos importantes para paliar dolorosas realidades en búsqueda de futuros mejores. A pesar de los proyectos utópicos y recursos tecnológicos que la humanidad ha desarrollado a lo largo de los siglos, la mayoría de las metrópolis presentan graves problemas que parecen imposibles de solucionar. El deterioro social y ambiental, en muchos sentidos, es irreversible, pero el tiempo corre y no hay respuestas adecuadas.
