This story teaches that the doctor is not something to be feared, and that the doctor is here to help, and make us feel better. The concept of what a Veterinarian does, and that they help animals just like human doctors. This story demonstrates feelings children my experience when going to the doctor, or staying in the hospital. I hope Wally's experience can help them gain trust and learn that we all feel afraid at times.
