Synopsis "Dancing Standing Still: Healing the World from a Place of Prayer; A New Edition of A Lever and a Place to Stand"

Now in a new edition, this thought-provoking book by popular author Richard Rohr offers a critique of religion as a system that often creates an alternative, pious world without really challenging oppression, materialism, and sectarianism in our modern world. Religion, he says, without this contemplative stance, is often part of the problem. Drawing from Jesus' parable of the rich man, Rohr believes that religion can only rediscover itself as a transformational system if it passes through the eye of a needle, if it overcomes its own temptation to power, wealth, and fundamentalism. A true contemplative stance crosses boundaries, is not concerned with who's in and who's out. It is not a worthiness competition. In fact, the accessibility of the contemplative awareness to all is, Rohr believes, the key to the Gospel message: The kingdom of heaven is hidden in plain sight. +

Richard Rohr is a Franciscan friar, theologian, and American author born in 1943 in Kansas, United States. He was ordained a priest in 1970 and is recognized for his work in Christian spirituality, mysticism, and personal development from an integrative and contemplative perspective. In 1987, he founded the Center for Action and Contemplation in Albuquerque, New Mexico, with the purpose of teaching spiritual practices that unify the inner life with social commitment

Rohr has written extensively on topics such as the ego, the soul, love, forgiveness, and spiritual maturity. Among his most well-known works are Everything Belongs, The Naked Now, and Man's Search for Meaning (collective with Viktor Frankl). One of his most influential books is The Soul of Man: A Spirituality for Men, in which he proposes a renewed vision of masculinity from Christian spirituality

He is admired for his ability to bridge the Christian tradition with other spiritual and psychological currents, including perennial wisdom and the integration of suffering into the spiritual path. His message resonates especially among those seeking a deep, authentic, and compassionate faith in the modern world.
