La tradición iniciada en la segunda mitad del siglo XIV en España con el rabí Sem Tob y sus 'Proverbios morales', y seguida por los 'Refranes que dicen las viejas tras el fuego' del marqués de Santillana, es el antecedente hispánico más antiguo de 'Refranero mexicano', obra que presenta los refranes acuñados en México y nacidos del sentir e idiosincracia de los habitantes del país, así como algunos otros refranes que aunque provienen de otras culturas hoy forman parte del habla mexicana.'Refranero mexicano' lleva a cabo un estudio formal de los refranes, los rasgos discursivos que los sustentan, los tópicos a que se refieren, sus variantes y su estructura gramatical, para tratar de esclarecer la intención enclavada dentro del argumento y que subyace al sentido literal.No posee
