Convencido pacifista y defensor del internacionalismo obrero, Jean Jaurès dedicó su tiempo a interearse por los problemas educativos y a abogar por la reforma del dogmatismo que imperaba en la enseñanza convencional. “La próxima gran batalla se librará en torno al tema de la escuela laica”. Con esta rotundidad se expresaba a comienzos de 1909, después de publicar cuatro artículos en la Revue de l’enseignement primaire et primaire supérieur en los que reflexiona y propone soluciones a los problemas derivados de la ofensiva clerical y religiosa sobre la enseñanza laica y republicana en Francia. Asimismo, uno de los momentos de mayor altura política e intelectual de Jaurès es su discurso “A favor de la enseñanza laica” en la Cámara de los Diputados en 1910. SEAMOS LAICOS incluye esos cuatro artículos y ese valiente discurso ante la Cámara. Prólogo de Dionisio Llamazares Fernández
