Un mundo frío y oscuro fue una de las sagas más destacadas de cuantas derivaron de los regalos que Luthor hizo a diversos personajes en El año del villano. El guionista Peter J. Tomasi y el dibujante Doug Mahnke sacaron el máximo partido al evento para contar otra historia imprescindible a la que seguiría un episodio muy especial que remata este volumen. Cuenta la desaparición de Miguel Flores, un interno del Orfanato Martha Wayne, y está realizado por Tom Taylor y Fernando Blanco.
