El objetivo principal de este estudio ha consistido en tratar de entender y valorar el proceso que sigue el personaje principal en el transcurso de cada una de las cinco comedias estudiadas. Dicho movimiento siempre tiene que ver con la posible adaptación del héroe a una clase de circunstancias que no le resultan propicias y en las que no se toman en cuenta las virtudes tradicionales que están en la base de la conducta. La figura del protagonista centra el análisis de las comedias de Alarcón, encarnando cada vez más fuerte la imagen del hombre noble y heroico en conexión con las circunstancias que lo limitan y amenazan poniendo en cuestión lo que representa.
