De este modo, Voltaire propone dos niveles de lectura y una forma literaria que creará una gran tradición: el relato que subyuga al lector por lo que tiene de aventura y pericia pero que, sin embargo, también es una invitación a reflexionar sobre los males que aquejan a la humanidad, pero no de un modo directo, sino de una forma irónica y divertida, que resulta ser incluso más efectiva que el sermón o la diatriba.
