La épica es un género literario dedicado a narrar historias vinculadas a grandes batallas. Este tipo de literatura tiene en el Cantar de Mío Cid una de las más notables obras escritas en castellano antiguo. Es, sin duda alguna, el poema español por excelencia. La obra relata parte de los últimos años como soldado de Rodrigo Díaz de Vivar (1043-1099), el Cid Campeador, sobrenombre que le fue puesto por los moros a este noble caballero ya que la palabra ?sidi?, proviene del árabe y quiere decir: Señor; caballero, mientras que ?Campeador? es un término que viene del latín y significa el que gana batallas.
