Este libro ofrece recursos al profesorado de Secundaria para abordar en clase temas científicos de enorme actualidad y relevancia, seleccionados por su calidad de fronteras de la ciencia y de potenciales promotores de revoluciones científicas: el genoma humano y sus repercusiones sociales, las células madre y el futuro de la medicina regenerativa, la nanotecnología, la química y la ciencia por la sostenibilidad. A partir de ellos se hacen propuestas de investigación muy variadas y poco convencionales, que permiten adquirir una amplia visión de lo que es la ciencia y su complejidad, conocer las distintas posturas de los investigadores, etc. Si los adolescentes participan activamente en la ciencia que hoy se está haciendo, estarán en condiciones de poner en sí mismos los cimientos de una cultura científica, llamada a progresar y consolidarse a lo largo de sus vidas. En su medida, este libro ayuda a conseguir hábitos de adquisición de información que facilitarán la propia alfabetización científica, futura y permanente.(Abstract: SCIENTIFIC FRONTIERS - Formation for citizenship in Secondary education - This book has been written by a group of teachers in Service and promoted by IEPS (Instituto de Estudios Pedagógicos Somosaguas) a Spanish Institute for Educational Research. It offers a wide variety of guidelines and resources for teaching Science taking into consideration the new topics that come from the latest scientific revolutions, those that will be specially interesting for the present and future citizenship. The chapters of the book are organized around the following topics: Human Genome and other genomes; stem cells and the future of a Regenerative Medicine and Nanotechnology, Chemical Elements and Science for Sustainability. According to the nature of these themes, the proposal of the book combines scientific research and educational research but the activities are prepared to be used directly in the schools. They are preceeded by a long Introduction in which the authors explain everything needed for the correct use of the book. The wide range of activities proposed are really very remarkable for their originality and they are based on the Science that is being done at the moment.
