Francis Scott Fitzgerald es uno de los escritores estadounidenses más importantes del siglo pasado y uno de los más destacados representantes de la llamada Generación perdida junto a Faulkner y Hemingway entre otros. Nació en Minnesota en 1896 en el seno de una familia católica irlandesa. Junto a su mujer Zelda vivió intensamente tanto en Estados Unidos como en Francia aquellos locos años veinte de animadas fiestas alcohol sexo y jazz que impregnarán su obra. Su primer éxito literario se produjo en 1920 con la edición de A este lado del paraíso . Cinco años después publicó El gran Gatsby que con los años se convirtió en un clásico de la literatura norteamericana. Posteriormente vendrían otras dos de sus grandes obras Suave es la noche y Hermosos y malditos . Los últimos años de su vida los pasó en Hollywood donde murió en 1940.
