En 1837 apareció El Año Nuevo (1837-1840), editado por Ignacio y Antonio Rodríguez Galván, en la imprenta de su tío, Mariano Galván. En esta revista literaria anual se promovieron autores mexicanos, la creación de una literatura también mexicana y, desde la introducción del primer número, se consideró como la primera publicación "de su género y de piezas originales que se presentan en México".
