Synopsis "Debimos ser felices (in Spanish)"

Tres generaciones –la abuela, la madre y la hija- unidas en este relato que una de ellas, la menor, despliega como saldo de cuentas e indagación personal, pero también como reivindicación y reconocimiento de la condición de mujer.
Se trata del debut litearario de la joven escritora Rafaela Lahore (1985), Premio de la Mejor Obra Literaria 2019 del Ministerio de las Cuturas y la Artes, en categoría novela inédita. El relato nos remite a la zona fronteriza de Rivera, en el norte de Uruguay, donde una familia se asenta y construye, a comienzos del siglo XX, una historia llena de abusos y omisiones.

La historia avanza fragmentadamente, como
la memoria misma, impulsada por imágenes tiernas y duras, inquietantes siempre, chispazos que deslumbran y de algún modo reparan la relación conflictiva de la narradora con su madre.

Relación arquetípica, compleja de por sí, la madre de esta novela nunca ocultó sus tendencias suicidas. Y es ese es el misterio que ahora la hija intenta resolver con un relato íntimo y conmovedor, entrando en un pasado que muchas veces las familias prefieren ocultar bajo la alfombra.
