El inicio de la arquitectura de baluarte en el reino de Valencia, a finales del siglo XV, coincide con el inicio de una larga crisis que se manifestó también en la arquitectura militar. Aun así, y a pesar de que la investigación histórica se ha hecho más eco de la época medieval, entre los siglos XVI y XIX se construyó el castillo de Dénia, un importante conjunto arquitectónico único, sólo comparable con ciudades como Alicante o Peñíscola. Este trabajo, que intenta rescatar del olvido y despertar el interés por las construcciones de baluarte, estudia con detalle el patrimonio del castillo de Dénia a la vez que lo sitúa en el contexto histórico, tanto local como dentro de la Corona de Aragón. Un patrimonio que pide a gritos una mejor difusión y conservación, que supere los efectos negativos de las guerras de Sucesión y del Francés, y la larga etapa de abandono posterior.
