Durante su visita a Osaka, Conan, Ran y Mouri tuvieron que vérselas con un asesino en serie. Por desgracia, la resolución del caso trajo más dolor que satisfacciones a los detectives: el asesino resultó ser Sakata, un joven inspector de policía amigo de Hattori que intentaba vengar la muerte de su padre. Cuando Hattori descubrió el plan de Sakata, éste intentó suicidarse y, al impedírselo, el joven detective de Osaka acabó recibiendo una bala. Por suerte fue una herida superficial, pero el susto, y el dolor por su amigo, tardarían mucho en desaparecer. Más tarde, durante la final de fútbol del Campeonato del Emperador, que tiene lugar en el Estadio Nacional, los detectives Infantiles se enfrentan a otro misterio: alguien ha disparado contra el balón. Por supuesto, Conan y sus amigos dudan de que ése sea el verdadero objetivo y, con la ayuda del inspector Megure, tratan de averiguar quién está en la mira del asesino.
