El mes de marzo de 2014 se hizo público un brote de fiebre hemorrágica, el virus ébola, en Guinea Conakry, que pronto pasaría a varios países de la zona, sobretodo Sierra Leona y Liberia, aunque también acabaría llegando a países como España o Estados Unidos. Desde 1976, cuando se diagnosticó por primera vez en Nzara Sudán) y Yambuku (República Democrática del Congo), cerca del río Ébola, que le da el nombre, África ha sufrido más de una veintena de brotes.
A pesar de ello, en nuestras latitudes solo nos interesamos por dicha enfermedad cuando llegó a Europa. ¿Quién se acuerda hoy del brote de África Occidental? ¿Y de los brotes frecuentes que tienen lugar en África Central? ¿Qué podemos aprender de todo lo acontecido en relación al ébola en este último brote?
