El Solar Decathlon Latinoamérica y el Caribe constituye un desafío para las futuras generaciones de arquitectos a quienes se les estimula en la investigación y creatividad en el diseño de una vivienda bajo los parámetros de la auto sostenibilidad. Actualmente, el concurso tiene lugar en la ciudad de Cali, con unas estrictas condiciones por cumplir, tales como: espacio mínimo disponible para la unidad habitacional, número mínimo de ocupantes del proyecto, tiempo máximo disponible para el ensamble de la casa, accesibilidad total en primera planta para personas en condición de discapacidad, presupuesto limitado y una proyección de 120 unidades implantadas en una hectárea.
