Synopsis "Don't Bunch up: One Marine's Story"

* Gripping story of a Marine's experience in Vietnam *Details the process of preparing Marines for conflict *An honest account of what it was like to fight in this horrific conflict `A fine book by a really good author' - Leatherneck magazine Bill Van Zanten joined the Corps in 1957 and after boot camp and arduous training at officer's school in 1965-1966, he became an executive officer and company commander in Vietnam. Don't Bunch Up tells Van Zanten's story of military service, detailing the process by which young men were transformed into Marine infantry officers, and then sent to fight in Vietnam. Basic training, officers' candidate school, basic infantry officers' school and combat experiences are described and demythologised. The memoir is a modest, well-written account of the author's coming of age during the early phase of the Vietnam War. Van Zanten served in Vietnam with the 3rd Battalion, 7th Marine Regiment and with the 2nd Battalion, 4th Marine Regiment from 1965 to 1966. He was awarded the Bronze Star, the Navy Commendation Medal and the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry. The author currently lives with his wife Myrna, in San Jose, California. He is a partner in the executive search firm, Quantico Consulting, and has been a sales and marketing executive in the semiconductor industry for more than 35 years. This is his first book.
