So it is that he determines to face life’s circumstances with a surrealistic serenity, only to find himself sliding into nihilism. The events of the story take place during a single, feverish day, and offer up the shopping mall as a mirror for all of reality and Israel himself as an archetype of modern man.En esta novela humorística y excéntrica, Israel, un vendedor en una pequeña tienda empotrada dentro de otra tienda situada en la planta baja del centro comercial más importante de Madrid, por accidente se lleva de la biblioteca un libro de autoayuda que promete convertirlo en mejor persona sólo si adopta un estilo de vida fluido. Así es que procura enfrentarse a las circunstancias de la vida con una serenidad surrealista, sólo para encontrarse descendiendo al nihilismo. Los eventos de la historia transcurren a lo largo de un solo día febril, y presentan el centro comercial como un espejo de la realidad entera y a Israel mismo como un arquetipo del hombre moderno.
