Arguing that the role of the psychiatrist is a relevant and important one, this book insists that psychiatrists cannot simply be replaced by psychologists. Nowadays, there is a tendency to limit the scope of psychiatrists to behavioral neurobiology, trusting other specialists who aren’t medical doctors to take care of the more psychological aspects of mental suffering. This panorama favors a conceptual integration of theoretical models, seeks therapeutic factors common among different techniques, and is more aware of the relationship between the psychotherapist and the patient.
