Los protagonistas de este libro, Joan Uriach i Feliu, Saturnino Cambronero González y Antonio Gallego Fernández, siempre nadaron a contracorriente en su afán por crear una industria farmacéutica que respondiera a las enormes necesidades que, en este terreno como en otros, tenía España.

Joan Uriach contribuyó al tránsito del medicamento artesanal al industrial y la empresa que creó ha llegado hasta nuestros días. Cambronero fue, sobre todo, un innovador en el diseño de métodos para esterilizar el agua y elaborar inyectables. Por último, Antonio Gallego, un investigador ligado a la universidad, dirigió, en la posguerra, los primeros esfuerzos encaminados al descubrimiento y fabricación de antibióticos en nuestro país.
