Transcending the usual patterns of ethnology and sociology, this consideration works towards discovering the essence of Gypsy identity, arriving at what is called romipen, a state of being and lifestyle of Indian origin. This essence thus turns Gypsies into a fragment of the East in the middle of the Western world, explaining more than 10 centuries of encounters and clashes, of fascination and discrimination, that has existed between Gypsies and non-Gypsies. Superando las habituales pautas de la etnología y la sociología, este estudio intenta descubrir la esencia de la identidad gitana, obteniendo lo que denomina romipen, un estado de ser y un estilo de vida de claro origen índico. Esta esencia convierte a los gitanos en un fragmento del Oriente en medio del mundo occidental, explicando los más de 10 siglos de encuentros y desencuentros, de fascinación y discriminación, que han habido entre gitanos y no gitanos.
