La pandemia mundial desencadenada por la crisis del coronavirus trajo de su mano una inflación de heroísmo, y periodistas y políticos se apresuraron a ensalzar a los héroes y heroínas de la Covid allí donde el esfuerzo individual y colectivo se vio obligado a suplir la precariedad presupuestaria. Sin embargo, las figuras heroicas están hoy en día rodeadas de un halo de sospecha (demasiado pathos, demasiada masculinidad desbordante, demasiada superioridad moral), e incluso se ha llegado a proponer que vivimos en una «época postheroica». A pesar de ello, la conciencia de que atravesamos un tiempo en el que ya no hay espacio para el heroísmo convive con la proliferación de historias sobre héroes y heroínas.
