Synopsis "Homenaje a Cataluña (in Spanish)"

Cuando en julio de 1936 se produce el levantamiento armado fascista contra la República española, George Orwell decide viajar a España para trabajar inicialmente como periodista; pero las circunstancias le llevaron a enrolarse en las milicias del POUM. Como miliciano luchará en el frente de Aragón y será gravemente herido en la garganta, toma parte en los sucesos de Mayo del 37 en Barcelona; y, como sus compañeros del POUM, sufrirá persecución por parte de los estalinistas del PSUC y se verá obligado a huir de España, atravesando la frontera como simple turista. En 1938, cuando aun no había llegado a su fin la guerra civil, escribe Homenaje a Cataluña , donde relata sus experiencias en la revolución española. De hecho lo que había ocurrido en España no era una mera guerra civil, sino el comienzo de una revolución. Esta es la situación que la prensa antifascista fuera de España ha tratado de ocultar. Toda la lucha fue reducida a una cuestión de fascismo fentre a democracia, y el aspecto revolucionario se silenció hasta donde fue posible.
