Luego se describe su captura por parte de cazadores furtivos y el viaje que realiza contra su voluntad a Estados Unidos. La historia continua narrando su solitario cautiverio y posterior liberación. El final es esperanzador, pues vemos a Iván reunirse otra vez con los miembros de su especie.
