Blancanieves, La Cenicienta, Pinocho... Todos estos cuentos fueron superados en fama por la historia de La Bella y la Bestia, sobre todo, a partir del estreno en 1991 por la factoría Disney con un relato de animación sobre dicho argumento. La literatura, el teatro, los cómics, la ópera y el cine, tanto de animación como con personajes reales, se apoderaron de la historia de la bella y virtuosa joven que acepta sacrificarse por su padre, entregándose a un monstruo, sin pensar en el premio final que ignora. Podría ser de origen anónimo esta hermosa historia, pero sus dos versiones más conocidas son las de dos autoras francesas (la desbordante sensibilidad femenina se pone de manifiesto en ellas) del siglo XVIII, el “Siglo de las Luces”.
