Todo empezó cuando Jorge Velosa recibió por correo un cuento escrito a lápiz por un campesino llamado Gregorio Martínez. El cuento fascinó a Velosa, pero no pudo terminar de leerlo. Era tan largo, que a Gregorio no le habían alcanzado las hojas para escribir el final.

Entonces Velosa fue a la vereda Velandia, en Boyacá, para conocer al autor y escuchar de su voz el desenlace de la historia. Así comenzó una amistad que fue sellada por la famosa cucharita que luego se perdió.

Este libro nos cuenta la historia detrás de la canción que dio a conocer a Velosa y la música carranguera en Colombia. Está basado en los testimonios de Gregorio Martínez, del propio Jorge Velosa y de otros varios campesinos que vieron la cucharita por última vez en 1979
