ENGLISH DESCRIPTION In this novel, Sergio Ramírez explores the life of Costa Rican writer Amanda Solano through the testimonies given by three of her closest friends. Solano's beauty and intelligence, her cultivated and non-conformist nature, and the attraction she felt for communist ideologies, feminism and sexual freedom were well noted; her work—she published a single novel,— however was unrecognized during her lifetime. The varied personalities and voices of three privileged women who had access to an education, contact with revolutionary ideas and who fully enjoyed their sexuality while living within the constraints of a conservative society paint a balanced picture of the life of an extraordinary woman and her country, Costa Rica.
