1938: el escritor africano T. C Elimane, al que llamaban
«el Rimbaud negro», publica una novela titulada El laberinto de lo inhumano. Estalla la polémica, se le acusa de
plagio, el autor desaparece y su obra se convierte en un
libro maldito. 2018: el joven escritor africano residente
en París Diégane Latyr Faye descubre la novela perdida y
decide indagar sobre el autor desaparecido. Con la ayuda
de una enigmática mujer y de un grupo de jóvenes escritores africanos, el protagonista se embarca en un viaje
en busca de un mito y acaso también de sí mismo. Las
pistas le llevan al Buenos Aires de la revista Sur, Gombrowicz y Sabato, a supuestos actos de brujería, a un
hombre dividido entre dos culturas, a fantasmas del pasado y fantasmas del presente. ¿Qué fue de Elimane?
