Pocos conocen que la Batalla de Almansa también tuvo como consecuencia una significativa represión simbólica: la Senyera Valenciana fue guardada en un arcón. Los vencedores, abanderados de la centralización castellana, la consideraban un símbolo de las libertades nacionales valencianas que debían ser olvidadas para siempre. Pero no lo consiguieron. La Senyera estaba bien arraigada entre los valencianos desde que nació en 1377, por privilegio del rey Pedro el Ceremonioso.
