Synopsis "Los Días Contados (in Spanish)"

During the early twentieth century, Hungary is rife with political upheavals: the difficult equilibrium of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy begins to crack, political instability is pushing the country to the brink of collapse, and the aristocracy is beginning to prove itself to be incapable of governing. Through the eyes of the novel’s three protagonists—the young count Bálint Abády, his cousin and promising artist László Gyeroffy, and his unhappily married friend Adrienne Miloth—we witness the political and social circumstances that led to the empire’s demise. This is the first novel of the Transylvanian Trilogy Miklós Bánffy published between 1934 and 1940, and it is considered one of most important Central European narrative works from the first half of the twentieth century.
