This book is aimed at those who find themselves suffering emotional or psychological abuse. Considering that not all those affected are aware that what happens in their families and close relationships constitutes abuse, it sets out to describe the type of behaviour involved. Repeated abuse destroys the sense of self, battering self esteem and distorting the way one views oneself and the world at large, and can lead to anxiety, depression and trauma, leaving the victim trapped in a situation they are unable to get out of. Hence the last part of the book focuses on how to develop the psychological means needed to combat the abuse as well as dealing with the social and legal resources available in Spain. Este libro va dirigido principalmente a aquellas personas que se encuentran en una situación de maltrato psicológico o abuso emocional. Describe en qué consiste y qué tipos de comportamientos suponen maltrato, teniendo en cuenta que no todas las personas maltratadas son conscientes de que lo que sucede en sus familias o relaciones de pareja está siendo abusivo y puede considerarse maltrato. El daño o destrucción del sentido del yo y la autoestima, como consecuencia del maltrato repetido, además de dar lugar a ansiedad, depresión o trauma, distorsiona el modo de verse a uno mismo o al mundo, dejando a la víctima atrapada en una situación de la que no se ve capaz de salir. Por este motivo, la última parte del libro se centra en enseñar a desarrollar los recursos psicológicos necesarios para combatir el abuso, además de exponer los recursos sociales y legales con los que contamos en España.
