Nick Flynn conocio a su padre cuando ya tenia veintisiete anos y trabajaba en un albergue para indigentes en Boston. Jonathan Flynn, un aspirante a escritor, se habia marchado de casa cuando su hijo tenia seis meses. Nick ya era un adolescente cuando recibio algunas cartas desde la carcel, donde su padre decia que la experiencia le serviria para ser el Dostoievski de su generacion. Nick comienza su propio viaje por la literatura, el alcohol y las drogas. Su madre se suicida. Nick conoce a Emily, se muda a Boston. Y es alli cuando se produce el encuentro. El padre acaba una noche en el albergue donde trabaja el hijo. Pero Nick no construira una relacion que nunca existio. No se lleva a su padre a su precaria casa, aunque sepa que duerme en las calles. Nick quiere saber quien es su padre, pero a una prudente distancia. Esta al borde del precipicio y, si se acerca, caeran juntos. Nick quiere salvarse y escribir sus propios libros. / Nick Flynn first meets his father when he is 27 years old and working in a shelter for the destitute in Boston. Jonathan Flynn had left home when his son was 6 months old. Nick received his first letters from his father in prison when he was a teenager, in which his father said his experience was helping him become the Dostoyevsky of his generation. Nick begins his own journey through literature, alcohol and drugs. His mother commits suicide. Nick meets Emily and moves to Boston. It is here that they first meet, when his father one night ends up in the shelter where Nick works
