J.M. Barrie (Kirriemuir, Escocia, 1860 - Londres, 1937) fue un escritor y dramaturgo escocés conocido especialmente por ser el creador de Peter Pan. Nacido en el seno de una familia de artesanos de escasos recursos, tuvo una infancia feliz hasta que la muerte de un hermano, cuando él contaba apenas seis años de edad, alteró profundamente la vida familiar y trastornó la salud mental de su madre, que se convirtió en una persona desequilibrada, autoritaria e inflexible, cuya influencia y recuerdo pesó para siempre sobre James.
