Synopsis "Pharmacological Acceptances of Bauhinia Scandens Linn. Investigational Values of Bauhinia Scandens l. In the Management of Several Diseases"

Bauhinia scandens Linn. (Family: Fabaceae) is commonly used for cholera, diarrhea and asthma disorder and diabetes in Ayurveda treatment. This study evaluated the in vitro antimicrobial, ex vivo cardioprotective and in vivo analgesic and antidiarrheal activities of carbon tetrachloride (CCl4) fraction of methanol extract of Bauhinia scandens Linn. Stems. (CTBS). In vitro antimicrobial activity of carbon tetrachloride (CCl4) fraction of Bauhinia scandens stems. is performed by using disc diffusion assay against several pathogenic bacteria and fungi and compared it with the standard Amoxicillin and Flucloxacillin. The cardioprotective activity was evaluated by clot lysis effect on human blood, in which streptokinase (30,000 I.U) used as the reference standard. Anti-nociceptive effects were performed using experimental pain models by acetic acid-induced writhing test and formalin-induced paw licking test. In vivo antidiarrheal activity was carried out in mice by castor oil-induced diarrhea, castor oil-induced enteropooling, gastrointestinal transit test.
