Gustavo Adolfo Becquer fue un hombre de su tiempo el siglo XIX, un periodista politico, escritor versatil, reconocido en vida, que alcanzo tras su muerte mayor gloria. La difusion de sus «Rimas» contribuyo en gran medida a esta popularidad, ya que supo llegar como pocos, y por encima de diferencias de gusto y cultura, al corazon humano. El nombre de «rimas» hace alusion a su propia sencillez y en ellas logra transmitir los sentimientos del poeta con un arte confidencial e intimo. La mayor parte las escribio en sus anos de privaciones y pobreza y solo unas pocas fueron publicadas durante su vida, en periodicos o revistas. Fueron sus amigos quienes, tras la muerte del poeta, las dieron a luz.
