En 1910, Marinetti publica en francia "Mafarka le futuriste", que meses más tarde sería editado en italia, valiéndole al autor un proceso por ofensa a la moral pública. la novela apareció en españa en 1921 en versión de Julio Gómez de la Serna, sobre la que se basa la presente edición. Mafarka es un relato de acción demoledora, exhibicionista y amoral que exalta la velocidad, la temeridad, el peligro y la violencia: Mafarka-l-bar arrebata a su tío Bubassa la corona de Tel-al-kebir ante el inminente ataque del rey negro Brafan. Mafarka derrota a Brafan valiéndose de la astucia, pero en los combates pierde a su hermano Magamal, mordido por un perro rabioso. abandona entonces el cetro de Tel-al-kebir y decide morir transfiriendo su espíritu a su hijo Gazurmah, una estatua alada de madera a la que da vida con un beso.
