Cierra el volumen una selección de los mejores cuentos del autor.ENGLISH DESCRIPTIONThis work combines Amado Nervo’s first novel, El bachiller / The Graduate, with El domador de almas / The Soul Tamer, and a selection of short stories, all compiled by Dr. Gustavo Jimenez Aguirre, an expert on this great Mexican author of the 19th Century. Nervo’s first novel, El bachiller / The Graduate, started what was to become a rich and successful literary career. With hints of both a realistic and modernist style, along with some decadent tones, the novel tells the story of Felipe, a shy young man who decides that in order to study theology he must do so under a very rigorous discipline, one that ends up taking a toll on his health. When he returns to his uncle’s house to begin the healing process, he reunites with a childhood friend, Asuncion, who will make him question his commitment to religious life. In El domador de almas / The Soul Tamer readers will be surprised at a radical turn within Nervo’s narrative style which, this time offers a storyline closer to science fiction —perhaps the first of its kind in Latin American literature — than the realistic storylines that he was known for at the beginning of his career. The premise: a wealthy doctor receives an odd donation, a soul, one that will turn his bourgeois existence upside down as well as the entire genre.
