Las pocas películas sobrevivientes del cine chileno silente vuelven complejo cualquier acercamiento analítico y estético de un período, de todas formas, único en la historia cinematográfica nacional. Un dato para confirmar esto: en 1925 se estrenaron 34 filmes, de ellos 16 eran ficciones y 18 registros documentales. Se trata de un número que nunca fue igualado ni superado en todo el siglo XX, y ante esas cifras, resulta más que necesario abordar esa época.
Sucesos recobrados. Filmografía del documental chileno temprano (1897-1932) recoge un corpus amplio, novedoso y dispar que permite constatar la notable continuidad de un período del cine chileno que se construyó no solo con realizadores nacionales, sino también con firmas extranjeras y miradas foráneas al convulso Chile de comienzos del siglo XX.
