The Lyrics of Prince is an analysis of the lyrical themes, movements, and development of Prince. McInnis seeks to show that Prince is a lyrical talent on par with Stevie Wonder, Smokey Robinson, and Jimi Hendrix. At the core, the book shows that Prince is a metaphysical poet attempting to reconcile his individual desires in a strict and confining society.
