Tintín y el capitán Haddock acompañados del inseparable Milú han viajado hasta Perú en busca del profesor Tornasol, que ha sido raptado por haberse atrevido a ponerse la pulsera de la momia inca Rascar Capac. Tintín descubre al profesor en el carguero Pachamac, pero no logra liberarlo. Las pistas les llevarán a hacer un largo viaje en compañía de Zorrino, un chico indio, a través de las montañas de los Andes y la selva hacia un templo secreto de los incas.
