Thomas Carlyle Ford, más conocido como Tom Ford, nació en Texas en 1961. Estudió arquitectura y decoración de interiores. Dirigió A Single Man y Animales nocturnos, pero alcanzó la fama mundial como diseñador de moda, lanzando su propia marca de lujo en 2005. En 1994 fue director creativo de Gucci y de Yves Saint Laurent (YSL) en 1999. Posteriormente, lanzó una línea de ropa masculina, belleza, gafas y accesorios en 2006. Ford revolucionó el modo de entender la moda, introduciendo la sexualidad más elegantemente explícita como un nuevo concepto de mercado. Es viudo de Richard Buckley, periodista y ex-editor en jefe de la revista Vogue Hommes Internacional.
