Luego de dar tumbos en el mundo laboral como fotógrafo, taxista y hasta maquillador de muertos, se convirtió en psicólogo clínico y, durante quince años, fue catedrático de la Facultad de Psicología y de las maestrías en Medicina y Educación de la Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia. Como investigador audiovisual, ha dirigido documentales sobre Lucha Reyes, Sarita Colonia, danza contemporánea, entre otros.
