Sigmund Freud tuvo dos hermanos, Emanuel y Philipp, hijos del primer matrimonio de su padre, que ya eran adultos cuando él nació en 1856 e incluso mayores que la propia madre de Freud. Ambos emigraron a Inglaterra en la década de 1850. Emanuel tuvo varios hijos de los cuales únicamente sobrevivieron tres: Pauline, Bertha y Soloman, �Sam�.
