Hernán Bartra

Hernán Bartra «Monky» (Iquitos, 1932-Lima, 2020) is undoubtedly the most important children's comic artist in Peru. He was a co-founder of Estudio Osito-Monky along with Juan Osorio «Osito». Together, they created the pioneering Peruvian comic magazine for schoolchildren, Avanzada (1953-1968). From Monky's talent also came the little Boquellanta for the newspaper Última Hora, one of the comic strips that inaugurated the golden age of national comics. His most important title, Coco, Vicuñín y Tacachito, of unparalleled historical and artistic relevance, is now presented by Planeta for all audiences of the 21st century.
