Dave Cockrum
Dave Cockrum (November 11, 1943 – November 26, 2006) was an influential American comic book artist and character designer, best known for his work on Marvel Comics' X-Men and DC Comics' Legion of Super-Heroes. Born in Pendleton, Oregon, and a veteran of the U.S. Navy, Cockrum began his professional career in the 1970s, initially at DC Comics.

At DC, he worked on Legion of Super-Heroes, where he redesigned several characters and brought a modern, vibrant visual style. His talent for creating unique and memorable costumes quickly caught attention. He collaborated with writers like Cary Bates and E. Nelson Bridwell, leaving a strong mark on the team's aesthetics.

He later joined Marvel, where along with Len Wein and Chris Claremont, he revitalized the X-Men by creating new characters such as Nightcrawler, Storm, and Colossus. Cockrum was the principal designer of this new international team, which debuted in Giant-Size X-Men #1 (1975), starting a new era of success for the franchise.

Beyond his contributions as an artist, Cockrum was an advocate for creators' rights. His legacy endures in generations of readers and artists influenced by his imagination and innovative style.
