Vito Dumas
Vito Dumas (Buenos Aires, 1900 – Vicente López, 1965) was an Argentine sailor, athlete, and writer, famous for his solo ocean crossings. In 1942, he embarked on a world tour via the perilous route of the "Roaring Forties", aboard the sailboat Lehg II, an adventure he recounted in his book The Roaring Forties (1943). This journey established him as an emblematic figure in solo sailing.

Among his publications are Alone, Heading to the Southern Cross (1934), The Cruise of the Unexpected (1946), and The Voyage of the Sirius (1957), all belonging to the genre of travel and maritime adventure literature. His style combines technical precision with deep personal introspection. In 1957, he was awarded the Slocum Award for his outstanding career in solo ocean navigation.
