Elspeth Beard

Elspeth Beard (born in 1959) is a British architect and motorcycle pioneer. She is known for being one of the first British women to travel around the world on a motorcycle. In 1982, at just 23 years old, she embarked on a journey of more than 56,000 kilometers over two and a half years, visiting countries such as Australia, India, Nepal, Thailand, and the USA on her BMW R60/6. During her journey, she faced accidents, thefts, and illnesses, but managed to complete her trip in 1984. Despite her feat, she was ignored by the media at the time. Later, she wrote a book titled Lone Rider where she recounts her experience. In addition to being a biker, Beard is an award-winning architect and restorer of historic buildings in England.
